Thirty-eight years after the formation of her most known musical project, the Pixies, Kim Deal is releasing an album on November 22 labeled “Nobody Loves You More.” Deal, born in Dayton, Ohio, on June 10, 1961, made a lasting impression on a generation of indie and alternative rock bands in the late 1980s and early 1990s with her distinctive approach and inventive bass lines, which helped create the Pixies’ unique sound. She co-founded The Breeders in 1989, playing guitar and lead vocals. The band’s 1993 album Last Splash and its famous song “Cannonball” helped it achieve widespread success. Deal, well-known for her candid, unpolished approach, departed the Pixies in 2013 to concentrate on her solo career and The Breeders, which she still leads alongside her twin sister, Kelley Deal. Kim Deal has received recognition throughout her career for her subtle yet powerful musical style and long-lasting impact on the alternative rock genre.
Her upcoming album contains 11, three of which have been released on Spotify. The second track, “Coast”, was reportedly written after a wedding Deal attended in 2020 that featured house band Grape Whizzers, who covered “Margaritaville” by Jimmy Buffett with “revelatory levels of low self-esteem.” The next track, “Crystal Breath,” is both energizing and introspective since it blends an older sound filled with synth with contemporary indie music. I am looking forward to this upcoming album to see how Deal expands upon her solo career and releases more personal projects not tied to the Pixies or The Breeders.
